Sting will be performing in Lima, Peru in February 2011, and will be joined by the country’s very own National Symphonic Orchestra, for a night of classical renditions of his biggest hits.

A musical icon and a permanent fixture in pop culture, Sting has been known the world all over for dabbling onto various musical genres, from pop and soft rock with his former band Police, who gave us the hits “Roxanne” and “Every Breath You Take”, to world and jazz beats and this time, to symphonic orchestra. His repertoire for the night will include hits spanning his career of more than two decades, and will take on a new palette when the Peruvian National Symphonic Orchestra imparts a classical take on his biggest singles and some obscure ones as well.

Last night, October 5, Tuesday, the Dorchester Hotel in Park Lane hosted the annual BMI London Awards by Broadcast Music Incorporated, which honors not only this year’s best works in the music industry, but also works from music veterans that have made an impact and a lasting impression in the business.

The night’s important honorees were pop icon Sting and songwriter Don Black, OBE. Sting was honored for his single “Every Breath You Take” which was performed ten million times since its release in the late ‘80s. Other popular classics that were also aligned along with Sting’s single were “Yesterday” which was honored for its nine millionth performance, “Your Song” at eight million, “Save the Last Dance for Me” at seven million renditions and performances, “Crocodile Rock” at six million and “Baker Street” and “Candle in the Wind” by Sir Elton John, tied at five million performances.

Sting, the rocker from the UK, was very open and honest about the Police tour and the effect it had on him. “Truthfully, I got ill, just physically ill. I was able to get through it, however it was not easy,” Sting said. He revealed that the tour of 2007 was a trip into memory lane that was too much.

The Police brought one of the most successful reunions of rock n roll to an end at Madison Square Garden, with a tribute for other famous trios as well as assistance from real cops and a shave that wasn’t particularly close. The final show and 150th of their 14 month comeback tour was a benefit concert for two public television stations in New York. Sting, along with Andy Summers, guitarist, and Stewart Copeland, drummer, added in some silliness that comes from being on the end of a long road tour into their set list. They walked off to “that’s all, folks,” the signature line of Porky Pig.

During the Police’s long reunion tour that will finish up on Thursday, they didn’t exactly resolve conflicts that almost 25 years ago blew up one of the most successful groups in rock music history. The band members at least appear to understand the conflicts better.

The tour for the Police has been extended, however more concerts haven’t been added. Instead of the tour ending in Wantagh, NY on August 5, the band will be performing on August 7 in Madison Square Garden in a Public Broadcasting Service benefit for WNET and WLIW, metropolitan New York PBS stations.

The reunion tour of the Police will be making one final trip through North America over the summer. The band will then call it quits once again. Unlike last year’s schedule, the group will be sticking to arenas and amphitheaters without having any festival or stadium stops during the May and July thirty some date trek. Sandwiched in between in June will be a European fifteen date run.

The Police and Eric Clapton will be headlining the Hard Rock Calling festival this year in Hyde Park in London. The first night in the event of two days will be led by Clapton. Special guests joining him will be Sheryl Crow, ex-girlfriend, and John Mayer. For the second night The Police will be heading the lineup. Starsailor and KT Tunstall will be on the bill as well.
