The on again and off again TV program “Unplugged” will be returning this summer in a very big way. There will be new episodes that feature John Mayer, Mary J. Blige, Kenny Chesney, Bon Jovi and the Police. However this time around the show will be rolling out on a number of different related platforms and channels, including MTV.com, CMT and VH1.
Ushering the 2007 edition in will be Bon Jovi. The series begins on MTV on June 22. Then on the next two nights, CMT and VH1 will be airing an “Unplugged” version that is tailored specifically for the audiences on those two channels.
Bon Jovi has received credit for being the inspiration for the format “Unplugged” following his 1989 stripped down performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. Bon Jovi’s appearance is coinciding with their new album with a country tinge to it called “Lost Highway” which is due out on June 19 on Island.
There hasn’t been any information unveiled yet regarding any other tapings. Reportedly the Police will be holding their show on “Unplugged” in Miami in mid July. Rumors are that the band is also considering releasing an album that features acoustic versions of their older material.
